Project Summary:
Perform a LEED rated renovation, of an existing abandoned manufacturing wing, to provide new administrative office space for Raytheon Defense Corp. This project created much needed administrative office space from a otherwise unused manufacturing wing.
Project Highlights:
If I could provide a before and after shot of the space, the difference would be astonishing. We transformed a dark and dingy manufacturing wing, which was served by a 50 year old sectional steam boiler, into a bright and pleasant office space served by a series of geothermal heat pumps. Furthermore, the project was a LEED for Commercial Interiors V2.2 renovation for which we received a Gold Rating.
A follow up project was the replacement of the existing sectional steam boiler with 2 Munchkin high efficiency hot water boilers. We were very pleased to find out that after three months of operation, the combined savings of the LEED renovation and boiler replacement was over $60,000.
Involvement:
I am extremely proud to say that I was very involved in this particular project. Per usual, I was responsible for designing the HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems for the renovation, as well as creating the construction drawings. However, I was also very involved in the LEED preparation and submission process. It was my responsiblity to research many of the possible credits to be earned and provide the required submission documents and calculations. Together, the engineer and I earned 11 of the total 32 credits earned by the project, including 2 Innovation in Design credits.
