Project Summary:
Shaver's Creek Environmental Center is an educational and recreational center outside of State College, PA that focuses on Pennsylvania wildlife education. The center is owned and operated by Penn State University. At the time of the projects conception, the existing cabin style restroom facility was in much need of a serious renovation. The restroom's interior was completely gutted, plumbing fixtures and all, and replaced with a new interior and plumbing fixtures.
Project Highlights:
The building's wall construction was updated including new insulation. We removed the old oil fired boiler and oil tank which served a perimeter hot water fin tube system, which was also removed. In its place we installed new high efficiency LP gas fired infrared unit heaters. In addition to a new heating system, we also provided new low flow water closets and waterless urinals to further reduce the enviromental center's ecological impact.
Involvement:
My primary responsibility as lead designer for this project was the design of the HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems. In the process, I also created the working construction drawings and prepared the PA Department of Labor and Industry submission documents including IECC mechanical and lighting compliance forms. During construction, I represented PBCI - Engineering at all construction meetings.
