Project Summary:
The goal of this project was to provide a new educational facility for the Young Scholars of Pennsylvania Charter School located in State College, PA. The building would be designed and constructed over two phases. Phase one would provide 7 classrooms, a gymnasium and restroom facilities. Under phase two, 7 additional classrooms would be added. Construction of phase two was completed in August of 2008.
Project Highlights:
The new educational facility would be one of only a handful of commercial geothermal buildings in the centre region of Pennsylvania at the time. We also utilized energy recovery units to handle the large amount of ventilation air required for classrooms.
Involvement:
My involvement in this project varied between the first and second phase. Under phase one, I was responsible for the design of the HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems, as well as the sprinkler drawing of intent. It was also my responsibility to design the geothermal field layout. Under phase two, due to time constraints, I was responsible for the design of the HVAC system only, and finalizing all construction drawings before being sealed and released.
